Purple Liatris I love this wild looking perennial! It has spread like wildfire underground and I will need to divide it this fall when it stops blooming. I've tried to transfer this in the middle of full bloom and it dried out and didn't survive.
Suggestion. Wait until the liatris is just coming up in the spring to split. They survive the transfer really well that way. Or mine did.
Also, since you like interesting plants, can I suggest an acrocona spruce. It grows slowly, reaching 6-8 ft in 10 years but what makes it so interesting is that in the spring, the new grown comes on as lime green and the cones are bright purple-red slowly turning tan as the weather warms.

I've been a decorative painter since 2004 and became a licensed CA contractor in 2008. I enjoy re-purposing and re-using...it's great for the environment AND my house! My blog is an extension of my business, Patina Decorative Finishes.
